Murray Houllif

Murray Houllif was born in 1948. With more than 200 published books, solos and ensemble compositions, the music of Murray Houllif is performed all over the world. His varied and continuing performance experience has lent much inspiration: Catskill Mountain show drummer, concert percussionist with the Long Island and Nassau Symphonies, his own Ambira Mallet Quartet, The Atlantic Wind Symphony, jazz and rock drumming, etc.

Mr. Houllif has taught percussion at North Texas State University and is a two-time winner of the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest.

Houlif was presented with the Distinguished Music Leadership Award for excellence in percussion education by the New Jersey Youth Symphony Percussion Ensemble, Dr. Kenneth Piascik, director, on May 3, 2015. The ensemble performed Mr. Houlif's Percussive Arts Society prize-winning composition, Three Movements for Multi-Percussionist and Percussion Quartet. (see photo below)

He resides on Long Island with his wife, Virginia, and he is retired from 33 years of teaching. For the past six years, he as been the house percussionist/drummer at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York.
