Johan Bridger

Johan Bridger was born in Sweden in 1976. He received his education from Malmš Academy of Music and from Northwestern University in Chicago. He has studied with teachers such as Ulf Svensson, Lennart Gruvstedt, Michael Burritt and Leigh Howard Stevens. After his debut with the Malmš Symphony in May 2004, Johan got his break through by, before the end of the year, be awarded 1st prize in both the Swedish Soloist Prize and the Belgium International Marimba Duo Competition, performing with both the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, record ing a cd with Caprice Records and making his debut at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in USA and at Wigmore Hall in London.

Johan was also awarded 2nd prize in the "Ljunggrenska Competition 2002" in Gšteborg, Sweden and 1st prize scholarships from the Royal Academy of Music Stockholm in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002. Johan has performed in the USA and throughout Europe and has also made several recordings for both the Swedish Radio and the Swedish Television. Composers such as Daniel Börtz, Staffan Storm, and Tobias Broström have written music especially for Johan. He currently teaches marimba at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Denmark.
